- Did you know that Fred Cameron, from Advocate Harbour Nova Scotia, a 5 foot 3 inch tall runner weighing 116 pounds, captured the 1910 Boston Marathon.
- George Dixon, a Halifax boxer, fought his way to the World Bantamweight Championship in 1890.
- Although Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball, New Brunswick’s Manny McIntyre became the first black Canadian to play professional baseball when he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals’ farm club, the Sherbrooke Canadians in 1946.
- In 1970, Prince Edward Island’s Barrie Poole became the first Canadian to capture a United States Drag Racing Event when he captured the Winternationals Super Stock Championship in Pomona California. To prove that his victory was not a fluke, Poole repeated as champion of this race the following year in 1971.

- The first black hockey player to skate in the NHL was a native of New Brunswick.
- From 1900-1913 four teams from the Atlantic Provinces challenged for the Stanley Cup.
- Two players with east coast roots have won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
